We have viewed your web site and some images are missing from certain pages along with some functionality buttons.

It could be possible that you may be using an old Internet Explorer and would benefit from an upgrade. For example, IE6 is the default browser for Windows XP and unfortunately it is a very old browser – over 10 years old. It is believed that this version of Internet Explorer is widely criticized for its security issues and lack of support for modern web standards. Indeed all support for IE6 has been dropped by Google.

It is recommended that Internet browsers are updated as regularly as possible. This will ensure that web sites will be seen in their full glory and you will have an increased capacity to use the functionality of a web site, for example transactional web sites. Downloads are available from the Windows web site.

We have recently had an outbreak of E.coli - what can I use to stop it from spreading?

One of the ways in which the E.coli bacteria can be passed from one person to another, is through poor hand hygiene (e.g. if someone hasn’t washed their hands properly when preparing food or after going to the toilet).

The following cleanroom consumable products can help reduce the risk of passing on the bacteria:

  • Hydrex Alcohol Hand Rub (HR1)
  • Spirigel Alcohol Hand Gel (HH2, HH10)
  • Azospray IPA Disinfectant Spray (AZW4)
  • Azowipe Hard Surface Disinfectant Wipe (AZW1, AZW2)
  • Azowipe Catering (Blue Strentex) Wipe (AZW3)
  • Azowipe Equipment Disinfectant Wipe (AZW5)
  • Azowipe Multi-Surface Decontamination Wipes (AZW6)

I need to wash and sterilise my hands regularly throughout the day – what products can I use?

Hydrex Alcohol Hand Rub (HR1) and Spirigel Alcohol Hand Gel (HH2 &HH10) Both of these products are disinfectants that are effective against E.Coli and MRSA.

The Spirigel has been approved for use within the NHS. The difference between the 2 is that Hydrex is a liquid and Spirigel a gel. Skinsan Antimicrobial Cleanser ( HH4) This cleanses and decontaminates in one step. It's effective against bacteria and viruses, including E.Coli and MRSA.

Seraman Liquid Cleanser (HH6) This is a mild cleansing product. It's been designed for those with sensitive skin or who have to wash their hands regularly.

How will the planned revisions to the ISO Cleanroom Classifications affect me?

When the revisions have been confirmed, we will communicate them to our clients and advise on how to ensure compliance.

In March 2011 our Cleanroom Projects Manager, Mark Jackson, along with Cleanroom Project Engineer, Matt Swift, were asked to attend a British Standards Institution (BSI) Conference on the proposed changes to the Cleanroom Standards.

The proposed changes were presented to the select group of delegates, who were then invited to discuss the proposal in workshops and give feedback in a discussion forum.

We were happy to be involved in the process and a number of interesting points were raised, so we are confident BSI will have found it worthwhile.

What can you tell me about MRSA, bird 'flu and or swine 'flu?

MRSA

MRSA/HAIs are usually contracted by people in hospital who are very ill or have open wounds or sores (e.g. bed sores or burns). It is usually spread by direct skin-to-skin contact. A healthy person is unlikely to develop the infection, but they may pass it on to someone who is ill, who may then develop it. The NHS recommends good hand hygiene - washing hands before and after contact with each patient.

BIRD 'FLU/AVIAN 'FLU/SWINE 'FLU

The NHS, Department of Health and World Health Organisation have all produced information and guidelines on dealing with bird 'flu and swine 'flu.

NHS: www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk www.prodigy.nhs.uk/Patient Information

Department of Health: www.dh.gov.uk

World Health Organisation: www.who.int

Their recommendations centre on respiratory and hand hygiene – covering nose and mouth when sneezing and coughing, and washing hands regularly.

CATCH IT, BIN IT, KILL IT!

How can I protect myself against Swine Flu?

Swine flu is a respiratory disease that infects pigs, caused by an influenza virus. It does not normally infect humans, but this occasionally does occur.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) says the new swine flu virus is contagious and is spreading from person to person. It spreads in the same way as ordinary colds and flu. The virus is spread through the droplets that come out of the nose or mouth when someone coughs or sneezes. It is recommended that you always use a tissue when coughing or sneezing and that great care should be taken when disposing of this.

We would recommend using an Alcohol hand wash (HH2 - Spirigel) or (DG1/DG2 Desderman Gel) in your daily routine. Take extra care with babies, children and people with a weaker immune system.

For more advice please see the links below.

Why is contingency planning used for Swine Flu

With the increased spread of Swine Flu and the estimation of far greater spread, the government has left businesses and organisations to make its own plans to deal with the greater risk, therefore a contingency plan for an outbreak is a must for businesses and organisations.

No organisation is immune from the risk of employee contamination and potential absence from work due to illness but where would a mass outbreak of Swine Flu in your workforce leave your staff and your business? Those businesses and organisations with no business continuity plan or that do not take a pro-active approach to the threat could be jeopardising their future as well as day to day operations.

'Effective against Swine Flu, these products can be used on hands, door handles, computer keyboards, telephones and hard surfaces where people may have spread the germs after sneezing and can help prevent the spread of the virus in your workplace and reducing the risk to your personnel

Is Spirigel effective against bird flu and other viruses?

Here is the Manufacturer's response:

'Yes. The virus responsible for bird flu is known as an "enveloped" virus, in other words each virus particle is surrounded by a fatty coat. Spirigel has been tested against Bovine virus diarrhoea virus (BVDV) and vaccinia virus, viruses which are internationally recognised as being suitable surrogate viruses to represent all enveloped viruses. Spirigel showed efficacy against the surrogate viruses within a 30 second contact time. Spirigel is therefore proven to be effective against all enveloped viruses, which includes amongst others those responsible for bird flu, human flu, hepatitis B, HIV, herpes, measles, mumps, rubella and rabies.'

Do you have any information for organisations on Avian flu?

Yes, you can bathe in, or wash with Hydrex Surgical Scrub (HH1, HR1) or Skinsan Antimicrobial Cleanser ( HH4) before going in. Both products have a 'residual kill' which means the more you use the more effective the product.

Can any of your products be used in eradication therapy?

Yes, Skinsan Antimicrobial Cleanser ( HH4) is suitable for this. It can be used diluted in the bath, or as part of a bedbath routine. Simply apply using a cloth and allow a contact time of 1 minute.

Is there any specific reason why I should be using a medical keyboard instead of a standard keyboard?

The Department of Health Technical Memorandum 01-05 (HTM 01-05) section 6.66 states that;

For infection Control reasons , clinical areas: covers should be provided over computer keyboards or conventional keyboards should be replaced with "easy-clean" waterproof keyboards as recommended in the department of Health's (2008) 'Clean, safe care:reducing infections and saving lives'.

Please follow this link for more information on the medical keyboards  that we offer at cleanroomshop.com

I work in a Dental Practice, could you please recommend the best hand hygiene wash for use in this environment?

We would recommend using Schulke Desderman© Gel which is an ethanol based alcohol hand gel for rapid hand disinfection without water. Unlike other alcohol gels it provides long term efficacy of over 3 hours. It also contains emollients to care for the skin. This can be bought in 150ml and 1L bottles depending on your requirements.

I've read that Alcohol hand gels can be drunk and are can be dangerous please offer advice if this is correct?

All our hand gels are denatured. To distinguish ethanol from alcoholic drinks the government insist that alcoholic formulations for cleaning or industrial use should be blended with an additive to render them unfit for human consumption. The most common additive used in our alcohol is Bitrex. It is the addition of these additives, called 'denaturants', that make the alcohol unpalatable. Under new regulations issued in 2004, denatured ethanol B (known in the trade as DEB) is now classified as Trade Specific Denatured Alcohol (TSDA).

What is Bitrex and why is used in hand gels and alcohol cleaning products?

Bitrex is one of the most bitter compounds known to man. Small quantities are also put into screenwash and antifreeze to prevent consumption, accidental or otherwise and does not alter with their industrial use. Bitrex is a denaturant that renders alcohol unpalatable.

When I log back into my personal account on the web site I sometimes see products in my basket. Why is this?

This is because you did not purchase all the items that you selected on your last visit so they remain in your basket. To clear your basket before you sign out of your account is simple. All you need to do is tick the remove box to the right of the product and then click the Update Basket button. This will delete the product from your basket. Please repeat this action to delete further products if required. Alternatively, if you buy the same products from us regularly, you can leave them in your basket meaning your checkout process is that much quicker. If you have any questions please contact us today and we will be happy to speak with you.

What is the purpose of the ADD button on the product listing pages?

This is one of many features that we have added to our web site to improve your experience at cleanroomshop.com. If you are a regular visitor and you know which product you want to buy, the ADD button will take you straight to the Basket bypassing the View Product page saving you time. All you need to do is click the top ADD button which will open a quantity box. Enter the amount of products that you wish to purchase and click the Top or Bottom ADD button. Your product will then be added to the basket.
